What Is Pilates / Core
Work?
“THE ART OF CONTROLOGY (PILATES) PROVES THAT THE ONLY REAL GUIDE TO YOUR TRUE AGE LIES NOT IN YEARS OR HOW YOU THINK YOU FEEL BUT AS YOU ACTUALLY ARE, AS INFALLIBLY INDICATED BY THE DEGREE OF NATURAL AND NORMAL FLEXIBILITY ENJOYED BY YOUR SPINE THROUGHTOUT LIFE.”
~ JOSEPH PILATES
Pilates is an exercise system focused on flexibility, conditioning, toning and strength for the total body. Joseph Pilates, the founder of the Pilates method, believed in precise, concentrated movements using the mind to “feel and focus” the body.
The primary focus of Pilates/Core Work is to keep the body’s center controlled and strong. This is achieved through the use of the body’s “powerhouse” made up of the pelvic floor, deep abdominal and back extensor muscles. This “powerhouse” provides a stable base from which a participant moves through a variety of range of motion and resistance exercises.
